It’s always a pleasure to discover something new. Some things, of course, are new only to myself. London is vast, and alive, and contains more music, theatre, architecture, and art than one person can even survey, much less experience, in one lifetime. But sometimes I have the great pleasure of stumbling upon a new London musician when they’re genuinely new. Katherine Fischer is one such example. Recently graduated from Fanshawe College, she’s now appearing upon the London music scene with the release of her first CD, “Here I Am”. The CD is warm, open, and heartwarming, a series of simple stories calculated to bring a smile to the lips of the listener. In an occasionally cynical world, the aim is no mean one, and Katherine succeeds admirably. Like all things new and young, the sound may well grow. Flutes, violins, harmonicas, and accordions may well proliferate, and if they do I very much look forward to watching it happen. But today Katherine Fischer has produced a CD well worth listening to, and begun to add something magnificent to London’s music scene. “Here I Am” will be released to the public on August 12th at the London Music Club. Tickets are $10.00 and the doors open at 8:00. chrwradio.ca/content/here-i-am-katherine-fischer
